Upcoming EventsJune September SREE 2023 Conference UpdatesThe SREE 2023 conference theme, "Embedding Equity for Better Methods, Evidence, and Practice" is about truly embedding equity into our research and practice. Doing so may require expanding our notion of what counts as evidence for decision making. Read more about this year's conference on our website. Timeline Awards and Funding SREE Awards 11 Undergraduate Internships for Summer 2023We are thrilled to announce that SREE has awarded funding for 11 outstanding internships for the summer of 2023, representing an investment of almost $50,000 in undergraduate internship funding. This is a testament to the compelling response we received to the internship application - a clear indication of the demand and necessity for this type of financial support to foster the next generation of researchers. We’re excited to recognize our internship recipients:
In line with our commitment to equity and access in research, all the awarded funds were given to students from underrepresented student groups. Significantly, one-third of the intern awards are funding students who are currently studying at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This further underscores our unwavering dedication to promoting representation and inclusivity in education research. Through this initiative, we continue to strive for equity in the field to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to contribute to the robust education research landscape. Please join us in congratulating these deserving scholars and wishing them a successful and enriching summer internship experience. Institutional Member Corner: NYU SteinhardtThe research on students who do not graduate from high school has traditionally focused on students who drop out before their expected graduation date. This ignores the experiences of persisting students: those who remain enrolled in high school on or beyond their expected graduation date, but have yet to earn a diploma. Recent analyses from NYU Steinhardt's Research Alliance for New York City Schools show that where data are available, persisting students are estimated to be equal to or greater in number than dropouts. Research Alliance Senior Research Associate Kathryn Hill and Affiliate Zitsi Mirakhur co-authored a new article in the journal Children & Schools, arguing that persisting students warrant greater attention in research, policy, and practice efforts aimed at promoting high school completion and the postsecondary transition. Learn more about the Research Alliance's article on persisting students.
